Industrial Discharge Monitoring Reports

Contaminated groundwater flowing beneath the GEMS Landfill is captured by a pumping system. The captured groundwater is pumped to a pretreatment facility for treatment prior to discharge to the Gloucester Township Municipal Utilities Authority (GTMUA) sewage system for final treatment at the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA) plant.

On-site treatment includes Equalization, Solids Separation, and Carbon Filtration. Solids that are removed by the process are transported off site by truck to a landfill permitted to accept the type of solid waste that is produced.
The pretreated groundwater is routinely sampled and analyzed to ensure that it meets discharge limits established by the CCMUA. Samples are collected at a frequency established by the CCMUA, generally weekly, and are analyzed by a commercial laboratory certified by the State of New Jersey. CCMUA periodically collects their own independent samples from the discharge to verify the results submitted by GEMS.
