GEMS Site Aerial North Photo
  • Construction and operation of a groundwater extraction and pretreatment system, with discharge of the pretreated groundwater to the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority (CCMUA) plant.
  • Maintenance of the facilities that were constructed in Phase I of the remediation, which include the landfill capping system and the gas extraction and treatment system.
  • Various monitoring programs to demonstrate that the remediation activities perform as intended.
Operation of the groundwater pretreatment system commenced on July 11, 2005. In response to public interest in the site, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) requested that the GEMS Trust establish a public website that can be used to distribute the sampling results from the groundwater pretreatment system as well as other pertinent results regarding the GEMS Landfill remediation.
On this site it is possible for members of the public to view any public announcements by the EPA, Monthly Progress Reports submitted by the GEMS Trust to the EPA and NJDEP, and Industrial Discharge Monitoring Reports (IDMRs) submitted each month to the CCMUA. Copies of these reports may be viewed on this site.
